About the Artist

Shade Elam Maret Fine Art
Shade Elam Maret grew up painting in eastern North Carolina with instruction from watercolorist Mabel Allen. She continued her studies at St. Catherine's School in Richmond and at the University of Georgia, where she majored in journalism. After working as a reporter for Bloomberg News, The Atlanta Business Chronicle and other publications, she returned to her first love.
Capturing playful spirit in her paintings is a daily pursuit. Shade uses value, color and light to capture what might be considered an ordinary scene or moment. She tries to suggest, rather than render, pushing color limits when possible. Her hope is to be a good steward of her ability and that her work might somehow uplift or restore others.
Her paintings are available at For Your Convenience in Raleigh, One Eleven Main in Southern Pines and Cape Fear Jewelry and Antiques in Wilmington.
